After four days of booth conversations, showroom networking and thought-provoking presentations at last week’s International Battery Seminar & Exhibit, we’ve come away with a clear takeaway: the bar has never been higher for battery innovation and impact.
That expectation comes with its own challenges — especially in a moment marked by regulatory uncertainty and global volatility. But it also signals opportunity: to lead through innovation, to elevate safety standards and to create a better energy future.
Here are the top three trends we observed at the show:
Every time we attend a show, it’s clear how fast the industry is evolving year over year. With innovation coming from all sides — battery manufacturers, OEMs, electronics makers and tech leaders — incremental advancements and band-aid fixes aren’t enough anymore. Now, there’s an expectation for the best of the best. At International Battery, there was an appetite for battery technology that is adaptable across chemistries, scalable in multiple industries and implementable now to improve today’s batteries.
Stakeholders continue to sit in uncertainty as the industry remains in flux. From policy shifts brought on by the new U.S. administration to unpredictable global dynamics, many are taking a cautious approach to see what trends emerge and changes to expect.
At 24M, though, we’re continuing to push forward with reimagining battery designs and innovations. To fulfil the promises of electrification and cleaner energy, we can’t lose momentum — battery technology providers must keep innovating and pushing the envelope, regardless of what happens in the markets.
Safety continues to be a primary message at the conference and across the industry. Many of the sessions and booths highlighted fire prevention and battery safety as a top priority.
Collectively, we as an industry need to do all we can to enhance safety to achieve the ultimate goal of improving consumer confidence and accelerating adoption. At the show, we had the chance to showcase our Impervio separator, which stops fires before they occur by suppressing dendrite formation and preventing internal shorts. But for true change, the effort needs to come from all sides: automakers, battery manufacturers, legislators and technology innovators must work together to drive real, structural changes in battery safety and design.
As a battery innovator, we attend these shows not just to discuss our technology but to listen, learn and gather insights from partners and peers. Across the board, the industry is being challenged to rise higher, move faster and do better. At 24M, we’re proud to be part of that charge, delivering technologies that meet the moment — and define what’s next.
